Smelt

Was hoping for some info on any smelt run so far this spring... I tried bruce last year with no luck. Any tips of help is greatly appreciated.

I've gotten dribs and drabs of smelt since early March with 20 smelt a week ago last Friday along with a bunch of emerald shiners. I'm sure that if you're persistent that one night you could hit the motherlode.

There's nothing like a calm night down at the lake even if the smelt aren't showing up.

I found the same thing last year. A few smelts mixed in with a pile of shiner minnows. The water temp is getting close optimum for the smelt run. I am going to try once again this weekend and will post the results.

So is it any of the beaches along the coastline or should I be looking for river mouths?
