Port Bruce Tuesday Morning

Could get Ugly

Well-Known Member
Headed out of Port Bruce at 6am this morning. Had to dodge lightning, thunder and fishing nets. The storm went east and we went west in 56’ FOW. Marked tons of fish. We lost some nice fish due to broken lines, bent hooks, and a swivel opened up. Caught my first bow of the year! We managed 10 nice walleye by 11:30. It was getting bumpy when three lines tangled up with 10th walleye still on. Had to hand bomb the last fish in and said to Chris this is a sign to call it a day. Then out of no where the Game Warden pulls up. Glad I went back to the truck to retrieve my licence. We had a nice chat too. Purple spoons worked good but the oldest and ugliest RRF took the most fish on lead core. Black and gold RRF with a white tail caused by many fish bites. Great day on the water!

Right on!
Nice to know they are where we left them last.
As annoying as it is to run into the game warden it’s nice to know they are out there protecting our resource from those who wish to exploit it. 👍
It’s nice to know for sure @Derkd9 that the game warden is out there doing their job. 👍 I wish that there were actually more of them. I have had a few conversations with a game warden over the year’s,especially while I was walleye fishing on the Thames River in the Spring time. But, I always thought that an angler had to carry their fishing license on their possession at all times, while participating in the sport of fishing? What if say in my case,I was fishing out on a boat,or up a river somewhere quite a distance from my vehicle, how would the game warden know, that I even had a fishing license,by telling them it’s in my vehicle? I personally don’t need a fishing license anymore,( over 65 ), but I was just wondering. 🚤🎣🐟🐟👍🙂

Pretty sure you do need it on you..
so even if you were searched at the dock and had it in the truck I’m sure you’d be fined.. hopefully the right officer will give you a warning and let you go get it for them

I agree. Nice to see the Game Wardens out there and wish there were more. I follow the rules and only fish or hunt with others that follow the rules. Like fishing with you Red. As for carrying your license on you a photo will do too. Chris had a screenshot of his and that was Ok.

Definitely need it on you but if you get a nice officer they can call in your name and find out if you have a license or not. Happened to me one day when I left my license in my truck.

Has anyone ever had to haul in 10 lines in order to stop for the game warden? I'm sure that would be pretty challenging.

that would be a piss off... knowing everyone on board is legal and being stopped having to bring in all that gear would get me a bit fumed

Got chatted with on the water a few years back.

Two officers in the zodiac, pulled up on the port side in front of the lines and talked to us (4). I asked if they wanted to check us out and they said, "Not necessary, we had a good look at you before we came over, have a good day.", and off they went.

Not the same on shore, he (one) looked through the cooler and counted the slabs and verified everyone's status to fish. 🌻

We had that out of Pt Bruce years ago, an OPP Striper had OPP and Conservation Officer on board. He just sidled up to us, matched our trolling speed and asked us a few questions. Had to hold up 2 life jackets for him to see and fishing license names that he said he would call in.

Red, you probably know this but after 65 you do not need a license but all you get is a conservation. So...2 pickerel and 0 walleye. LOL

@Caseys Dream you are wrong about the conservation limits after you turn 65. I am 68 years old and the limit after 65 is a sportsman limit. 6 Walleye and 5 Trout/Salmon. It is under 18 or over 65 or holder of an Ontario Disabled driving permit or veteran who does not need a license and are deemed to have a sportsman permit for limits.

Q: I’m a senior and don’t need a fishing licence. My Outdoors Card does not expire until December 31, 2019. Do I need to carry a licence summary with me when I am fishing?

Other documents may qualify

A: Some Ontario and Canadian residents qualify to use other documents instead of purchasing and carrying an Outdoors Card and recreational fishing licence. If you are over the age of 65, you may engage in fishing provided you carry a licence, permit, certificate, or identification card issued by a federal, provincial or territorial government of Canada that indicates your name and date of birth. Catch and possession limits for a sport fishing licence apply in these situations.

If you opt to use your Outdoors Card and a valid recreational fishing licence that you have purchased, you must carry the Outdoors Card with you while fishing, and if the Outdoors Card does not have a box on the back indicating a valid 1-year or 3-year recreational fishing licence, you must also carry the licence summary that lists your valid fishing licence.

I stand corrected! Thanks Scrimmy. For some reason I had always thought the opposite. Has it changed or have I been wrong about this from birth?

Game Warden must have been doing his rounds as he pulled up to me straight out of Stanley yesterday as well. Nice guy, did his routine checks and moved on. He thought he was going to have to call mine in as I have a licence sleeve that Dixie Tackle gives you with 2 sides and he found my 2022 in the one side. I told him everything I have is in there than he realized there was a second side and pulled the 2023 paper work out. They really should just go back to the old way instead of the card plus a stupid piece of paper but what can you do? First time being pulled over by the CO on Erie for me
