So as some here know I’ve been messing with new to me boat
It’s gone trough few changes
Replaced inboard motor cleaned up a bunch of stuff

so today was to be first launch and test run
Well I should have done few things different

had it running on the hose yesterday
As was going yesterday but plans changed

today hook it up go down road hear clunk clunk
Like trailer ball noise
Didn’t do that before stop go look
Latch down pin in chains on

light bulb comes on wrong ball pulled little boat last 1 7/8
Swap balls and head for gas

tell pump 50 splashes at me at 20 (small tank or had lots already)

on the road
Get to launch
Stage pull the rear ties off
Then line up ramp
Just start down ramp

stop hop out remove safety chain and winch hook cause that’s how I have done ever boat I have owned

hop in truck start to move
Buddy holding rope start yelling as I watch the boat exit the trailer on it’s own
Doesn’t get in enough to float

hook winch back up to find first part to rotten it breaks
Retie hook
Start cranking but concerned strap not going to cut it
Launch owner come with truck and strap
We get back on trailer
Look at back of boat
Drain plug looks tipped but going to put in and see

so in the water park truck
Then lift engine cover and I think we are taking water but will check few things lower drive blower on
Turn key nothing what try again nope get my little booster pack that I charged week back cause my son used for something and it’s dead to

I take it to truck plug it in to charge
Go back to boat tinker about and watch water level in back

toss a line a bit then get boost pack
I try to start and get little grunt
Then nothing can’t raise drive
Put pack in truck again for 10 min
Back in boat raise drive reload on trailer
Head home

In end I found out easy to unload and load

20.0 launch to wet boat I am grateful for the assistance to get back on trailer

so back in driveway and see what a fix is for the leak

Dang.
my old boat my first time launching it
And my first time ever launching a boat and backing down a ramp

an old friend thought it would be a good idea to launch that way unhooking everything before I even started back down the ramp…
Well since it’s my first time I started going but had to break because I was unsure of my position and had to to turn..
well when I did that it sent the boat flying off the trailer.. luckily it made it into the water
But I let the old friend know that’s not how I want to do things my first time around!!!

Heres another view . not the first nor the last this will happen to. I say you handled the situation well on your behalf and had some great help. 20210827_125240.jpg

ouch. Hopefully nothing serious damaged beyond your ego and a day missed on the water. As they say Life teaches us lessons; when we learn one, we move onto the next.... surviving experiences such as this is how we acquire "just plain ol' common sense"

Never in any of my other boats I’ve owned did I have this issue
And some of the ramps have been way steeper

oh well

It’s the trailer with those rollers
My old boats trailer had similar “easy load” trailer

Yupper roller trailers, the ramp nightmare.

Years ago I stuck my nose into an old timers business who was going to disconnect everything before backing down a ramp.

You sure you want to do that?

I always do it with my own boat was the response.

Your trailer have rollers too?

No mine is bunks........... Oh, yeah good point, thanks.

Yah I like my new trailer with the bunks I back it down the ramp so the back of the boat is over the water then I unhook everything
Get back in the truck back it in until it floats and drive out. Easy peazy

Yikes did the winch tree break off? I don't see it in any photos.

Sorry that happened on it's maiden voyage. I saw a photo of a 60k Lund that was dropped short of the water. Not a pretty sight. I believe they wrote it off. I'll look for the pic

Well I learned there is a major difference between bunks bunks/roller combo and straight up rollers

crossing fingers that I have the leak fixed when the boat hit the ground it tweaked the brass drain plug and area took it apart and cleaned area and remounted
Will be water testing inside out tomorrow

Thanks for the reminder to check my winch strap. Would not be a good time if it broke while dragging Thorn up a creek bank with my truck.

I remember this happening to a gentleman years ago at the launch in Lions head. He unhooked early on a roller trailer and his nice 19 foot Wilker Galaxy ended up on the concrete launch 5 feet from the water. About 5 of us helped him push it down into the water. I just remember those terrible white skid mark's on the concrete. Can't imagine what the bottom of the boat looked like.

A reminder to any one that has had this happen, check the bottom of the motor (bullet) where it would hit the ramp first. If there is evidence that
it hit then check for cracks. This is very thin metal. Years ago I too had one roll off and the bullet did hit. Didn't appear to leak but a week later while making the long run in from the Belle river hump to Mitchells bay I blew the top end of the drive. Mechanic said that outdrives run at very high temperatures and would pressurize and force oil out. But wouldn't be an obvious leak in the driveway.
Speaking from experience.

My drive is omc (no hate) but because it’s omc it lifts dumb high it didn’t hit
The transom and bottom v took the hit

had to remove the drain plug boss
Dolly transom and go

That doesn't look like fun. I NEVER take the safety chain off the boat until I'm in the water with the trailer.

I saw a Wilker 21 hit the grate on the launch at Sauble Beach. Not pretty, but apparently, no damage. This was a metal grate on concrete.
