Is there a way to keep braided line in a down rigger release mind keep coming out

I have Scotty releases and they hold braid quite well. Could be the type of release you are using.

To answer your question. I have seen people capture the braid with an elastic then hold the elastic in the release (double the elastic around the line then back through itself). This works very well on planet board releases also.

There has been talk about the Chamberlain releases. I may try a set of those.

Love the chamberlain releases. Work well with braid and knockoff on fish as small as perch.

Can you put up a picture of the release?

Off the top of my head...

Lesson the rod tension, set the line in deeper, clean the pads, or finally roughen up the pads.

Or buy Chamberlains

Not cheap but the most consistent release you can buy, you adjust release tension with a set screw at the end, wrap the line around the "bat" four times then push it down. You could always try putting it in twice but looping it that it will release properly. I do that when using braid.
