Off Topic Caught off the Pt Bruce pier. Ain't no fish.

Taken from a post in the Pt Bruce group I'm part of on facebook. Posted at 3:45pm ish today.

"Anyone know whats going on at the pier? We were out fishing and it was all good, on our way back in we saw its all taped off and the police are there."

There were many responses, but the one that caught my eye the most was from someone who was there....the following quotes are pieced together from several responses from that person........"There was a old bomb or missle found. I was there when it was found pretty cool." Someone asked if it had washed up and that person responded saying, "nope someone was using a magnet on the Pier and it caught on lol"

Apparently according to further posts about it, one person was told that as it's painted blue, it's an inert practice round used for training purposes and nothing to be concerned about.

Hey pilot Pete. Here’s a bunch of dummy bombs. Load em into your B52. Fly over the port and see if ya can hit the water between the piers.

I've heard people joking about using dynamite or hand grenades off the pier when the fishin is slow, but I didn't think anyone would actually try it, even if it is an inert practice round that won't go boom

I have family who is either still in or recently retired from the military. I've sent the picture to one of them to see if I can get more info about what it is.

That reminds me of an story about this old guy dropping dynamite off the pier when the MNR showed up. After about 10 minutes of tearing him out a new arse, the old guy lit up another stick, handed to the Game Warden and said "are you gonna talk or fish".

Hey @Trevor M maybe it was the,”blue bomb” that I was snagged on ,before I landed the bowfin that day,when we were fishing off the Port Bruce pier just recently?

So I just got a response back from the family member I sent the picture too. He's recently retired from the Canadian Military. He says "Practice/dummy shell, hence the light blue. Still should contact police as it may have an active primer and no main charge." I told him that had already been done. When I asked him if it was a mortar shell, he said, "Possibly a 60mm. But seems short in length. It does have the right type of compression rings and fins so I would say yes. Could be American"

Oh you poor misguided soul. I'd have recognized you anyways. I've seen your picture enough times and I told you exactly where I'd be sitting when you got there. I hate to break it to ya, but the Habs gear had nothing to do with you catchin a fish, let alone 2 that day. The worm did most of the work

but I will say that if you think wearing that helped you, you may want to reconsider and change teams.

apparently they used to do practice runs all up and down Erie shore line , out of Dunnville I believe
