A lot of older boats had manually activated pumps. I always change mine to automatic. Even if you dont leave it in the water it is a great indicater . Earlier this year I had a walleye get his head stuck in the overflow of the live well and it was causing the hull to fill up. I wouldn't have noticed except the pump came on and made me look to see why.
