17 foot, 6 rod setup question

Yes 👍🏻 only one thing I add is that you want to have the same rods, reels and line on all of your dipsys. That way if Port #2 is hot then you can match the depth with starboard #2. Those outside lines could also pull a jet diver on an inline board. I like short but not to short rods! But that’s just my preference

Wow, my boat must be awful lucky, or The Neighbour can overcome all my mistakes.

I match opposite rods, reels and line loading as best I can from what I have.

More so the reels and amount of line, my rods are not necessarily the same. 🌻

I’m gonna complicate things here……. Maybe for the advanced guys…

300 hundred series reels? 300 series on medium heavy? Medium soft? Medium? On a 10.5 foot rod?

Ya I know the feeling!! if I were to buy everything again (always in the process) i would match everything up. Right now I only have 3 dipsys the same setup. It helped out greatly last year. But I’m starting to wonder if I like the craft of fishing more than the hunt lol

I usually stick with 5 dipsys if the fish hawk is down, if not, can do 6.

Lead core and riggers only on days the dipsys don't work. 🤔 🌻
I am with you hvyhaul! I hardly ever use my riggers at all! I only run dipsys with a 4-rod spread. This keeps me honest enough! I am not a big fan of cannon-balls zinging threw the water- trolling 2.8- 3.0 m.ph.!

Sounds like a lot are running more than the 2 rods per person on their boats.
2 rods per person. I don’t need the hustle. The original post was about adding 2 additional rods if I plan on a 3rd fisherman/boy/girl on the boat

300 is small to medium ok for riggers and dipseys. Tough to get 9 colours of lead spooled up.

Let us know who you're accusing, it will be more fun! The most I run is 8 rods for the 6 of us (myself, wife and 4 kids).
Accusing no one. 6 on my boat 12 rods would be out. 3 lead core per side, 2dipsyies per side and 1 rigger per side.

Riggers my favorite.150 feet of line out with a light rod way better than 300' on a stiff rod surfing in a 1lber or a dipseys that won't trip. I'll only run 6 when fishing is slow. I trailer so not looking for a quick limit and head in. I try and make a day of it. Put a mast and big boards on my boat last winter and haven't used them yet. In lines work for me and I clip to lead core so only need 8 pr 9 colour reels and just let out what I want.

All fairness just because someone knows how to set it up and explained it here doesn’t necessarily mean they are breaking the rules on their own boat

Add the new rod holders on the sides for two more dipsy rods
So run four dipsy rods and two for the down riggers straight out the back
A great setup @Derkd9 that you have on your boat 👍👍, and you proofed it,by us catching a very quick 12 walleye limit within a couple of hour’s that morning in August,2022,on Lake Erie. Thanks again for your invite, and Yes!! I would love to go to Lake Erie walleye fishing with you again anytime! 😃 lol 😂 🤣 Tight lines & Walleye’s ON!! in 2023!! 🚤 🎣👍👍😎
