Off Topic Fish'n Canada has started a petition to ban fishing in Ontario.

By your logic everything should be shut then . Dog walking. Bike riding . Motorcycle excursions . Everything. Rules and guidelines are in place for a reason. Same as everywhere. Respect them or get fined. Your government said yesterday this is acceptable.
No JB - by my logic - if people could go from home to the launch, go out fish, return to launch and go home - I see NO ISSUE with that and far less concerning than what we see happening in grocery stores, Wal Marts, Costco and the like. The issue is LOTS of people won't do this or don't think they need to do this. They would end up with multiple stops, not social distancing, and coming from who knows where with who knows what POTENTIALLY putting others at risk. Small communities that don't normally have traffic and perhaps small health care facilities don't need to be overwhelmed with cases because somebody wanted to go fishing. I say OPEN the launches - make them contact free operating facilities - let people fish - and if you get caught anywhere not abiding by social distancing requirements - throw a hefty fine at the individual - $5,000 or so. Law abiding individuals such as yourself and me shouldn't care how big the fine is because we aren't going to do what we shouldn't do.........right?

So again your logic is some fisherman have no self control and because they may stop somewhere on the way home that they wreck it for everyone,. At the same time the people goimg to the dollar store .. goimg out for a stroll ,taking their dog for a walk, using same cross walk buttons, have more self control and they have little to no chance of seeing someone or running into situations that they just cant help themselves .. point is LOTS of people will do this regardless of what they are doing ...doesnt make a difference if they fish or ride a bike...if you have read any of the above you should know others have been asking for common sense keep your distance be responsible and guess what you can still fish. Your logic is and was some csnt help themselves so let's ban it all together... ..ok let's ban outdoor activities then.. they potentially could be putting others at risk... no more dog walking!!

Rastam4n ; How do you know if I actually signed that petition ? No where did I state that I did. I at least read it through to understand their viewpoint and not make assumptions.

Oh relax. It’s mostly just ribbing. I know we are on opposing sides if this debate and I used the opportunity.
My apologies if I offended you.

WHAT ABOUT THE DOGS PEOPLE, THE POOR DOGS.

SOMETIME IN MAY WE CAN USE THE RAMPS AS FORD SAID, BE PATIENT.

DETRIOT RIVER FISHING IS ABSOLUTELY ON FIRE, AND HARDLY ANYONE FISHING IT.

Exactly, this is a debate..........one for the history books. And remember sooner or later, we will allowed back outside to meet our fellow members on a river bank....

I see a lot of discussion about how you should or shouldn't be permitted to go launch your boat and go fishing. Some think it should be allowed, others don't.

What about those of us who don't own a boat and because of disabilities can't go just anywhere, ie a river bank out in the middle of nowhere, but rather we go sit on piers. Well, we can't do that right now because they're all off limits and we could get a ticket for doing so.

So, what would your thoughts and suggestions be for those of us who don't own a boat, and can't go just anywhere IF you were permitted to launch your boat, but we could still get a ticket for sitting on a pier to do the same thing you're being permitted to do, which is go fishing with the same risks at the launch that we would face sitting on a pier IF they were open?

Now having asked that, I know some of you will have the "to bad, so sad, sucks to be you" attitude about that, in fact I expect some responses to be exactly that kind of a response...(sorry if knowing and expecting that takes away some of your fun) ...I also know there will be others who will have an attitude that says, "oh yeah, forgot about people who don't own a boat but love fishing as much as I do."

BTW I did NOT sign the petition. Didn't even read it. Don't watch the show so why read it when I know I wasn't gonna sign it anyways.

Sitting on the pier is not the same as launching a boat. Just like stopping at a red light while driving isn’t the same as parking .

The parking issues can be the same tho, so the risks are still somewhat the same whether I'm launching a boat or sitting on a pier. (yes I've launched a boat before so I do know) The chances are you're going to be around other people unless you get there late or so early nobody else is around.

But if you're like many others, you want to get there as early as possible (usually first light or before) and that's when the ramps are generally the busiest until people start coming back in right? So if they open the ramps, should they be opening the piers as well?

I’ve launched my boat in Lake O and Lake Erie many times . I don’t understand this scenario being painted of people being so close hanging out . You launch your boat park and leave . This process should take no longer then 5 minutes . If it’s taking longer people are going to be pissed off. Same as if you are in the way chit chatting . Any time I’ve launched my boat I am not within 6 feet of anyone that I didn’t come with. The only thing I am touching is my rope and dolly crank. Usually I am with someone that holds the rope while I park. I don’t see the risk. Not to mention a bulk of my fishing is in Algoma region where you don’t see another person most of the time all day. But the parks are closed so can’t do that . But you can still meander around Walmart or get Booze . As for the pier fishing I don’t care what people do. I believe in making choices for yourself . If you feel like you can pier fish safely knock yourself out . I still don’t think it’s the same thing to congregate on a pier over an extended period of time as it is to launch a boat and be on your way into a giant lake where you don’t have to be around another person for hours .

I get what you're saying. Some of what you say I actually agree with. Some of it I haven't, but I understand the frustration. I don't drink alcohol btw and you can't meander walmart (at least not the one by my place. They're being very strict about it. Security all over the place. You'll be asked to leave if you're just browsing and escorted out if necessary, in fact the security at the front door is telling people that before they get in the doors and they are confronting people who stop for a moment to think about whether they want/need any given product or not or whether they can afford to get it or for looking to see if they can price match it......having security get in their face like that is pissing people off.)

But I think that question I asked in my last response is the dilemma they're having. IF we open the ramps should we be opening the piers as well?

I paid for my license the same as anyone else would. My 3 year license expires at the end of this year, and given the way things are at the moment, and the projections they're giving on if or when things might open up again, chances are my fishing season this year isn't going to happen because the piers are closed and chances of going out with someone in their boat if they do open the ramps, slim to none at all given the reason everything is closed......and they certainly aren't going to offer refunds to anyone who already had a license for this year but couldn't go fishing because everything was closed and off limits are they.

And as I said in another thread. There are a few people on this forum who operate charters. How much is this hurting them this year?

I say open them . As long as common sense is used I don’t see it being a issue . We can’t all be punished because dummies can’t use common sense . I also think if there is no fishing we should be getting a refund . Also if you can’t go to your cottage you should not have to pay taxes on it . But I’m sure those 2 scenarios will never happen. All of this money being given out will need to be recouped somehow or we will have bigger problems then not being able to fish . All that being said it doesn’t negate my point that they are 2 different scenarios .

My biggest dilemma isn't whether I'm going to get to go fishing this year or not. It's have I done everything I can to ensure my wife is coming home to a clean and sanitized house and what am I going to make for supper and when do I need to start making it so it's ready when my wife gets home from work every day so that she's coming home to a place that is as safe as I can make it for her, and a hot meal.

IF I get to go fishing this year. Great. If I don't. No sense bitching about it. I'm not the only one that won't get to go, and bitching about it won't change anything. Will soon be an empty spot in the freezer. Might have to fill it with steaks instead of fish. (I'll do what I did last time if that ends up being the case and just buy the loin and cut my own. Cheaper in the long run and I get more steaks for what I pay than I would buying them individually or in family packs)

They opened some beach's in FLA today with strict social distancing rules, it's not working, you'll probably see them closed again tomorrow.
So R Rod, get that your all pro ramp guy, but shake your head, we've all seen the shit shows at launches. First above 20C Saturday, folks been penned up for weeks, all your boating expertise won't matter, somebody will screw up, come on, they do in good times, think it won't now?
You can't go with your, that'll be on them concept, because if we don't stop it, one way or another it'll come back to bite us in the ass. If closed ramp's save lives, suck it up? What I'm saying, what if it's the boat behind you, coming in or out, and they somehow spread this crud?
Thanks for your license contribution, CO's are still out working and need to be paid, bet their job sucks right now? And I really feel bad about your tax's on your second property, probably cover's what, 10 minutes on a ICU ventilator for someone not as lucky as you? But I shouldn't be so negative, you can't go fishing.

Sorry the needs of the many out way the needs of the few. Fishing and boat launching aside there is 37 million people in this country . It’s unfortunate a tiny amount of mostly elderly have died but maybe quarantine high risk and let the rest of us get back to living life or we will all be broke. P.S I’m not lucky I’ve worked my dick off to have what I do. Sorry that offends you . Also you use question marks incorrectly .

I'm not involved in this conversation at all, but this comment is over the line.
This is a fishing forum, where we are all supposed to be talking about fishing.
Respect others opinions, whether you agree with them or not.

Did you come up with your name calling all on your own? Pandemic happening and sliding in the C powers you? The amount of elderly that may die, are my folks and friends, they made this country, they fought and died in war's, paid their tax's, did what was asked of them, but you can't go fishing, pay what you can, go blow your nose, suck it up, we'll all get threw this.
