that would be a bowfin....FEW call dogfish.

  • no "whiskers"
  • short but deep anal fin

  • length: 46-61 centimeters (18-24 inches)

  • primarily in southern Ontario

  • swampy, vegetated bays of warm lakes and rivers
 
That would definitely be a bowfin AKA dogfish. Awesome fight and usually a very aggressive fish and alot of fun to catch
 
Yep Bowfin. Caught one off the pier last week. They is UGLEEEEEEEEEE but they are kind of fun to catch, good fight. Saw 3 others caught this year earlier in June. The one had glow in the dark neon green fins. Apparently that happens when they're spawning is what I was told.
 
Bowfin, ugly AF and put up a hell of a fight
