In his post he states he went to go back and ran it over and it was gone.

Simcoe, Ontario

Yes, perhaps an asian carp.

You guys are scaring me with this Asian Carp possible spotting. If the fish ch312 saw had large scales like a carp, then it could have been "asian carp"!!!They say they are already in lake Michagin.Probably hitched a ride from a ship's ballast water and into lake erie.Ch312 look at some pics of a "asian carp", and let us know if thats close to being it!!!!

the first pass my fingers brushed it's head. the second pass i totally missed it. the third time i backed up and never saw it again after it went under the boat. if i had my old tiller tinner it woulda been much easier, but it was my first time in my new boat and i'm definitely a rookie when it comes to boat control using a steering wheel. :D

this is the closest pic i can find, but it wasn't this species as what i saw had teeth like a piranha. this is a rohu carp

I would like to thank Denali custom rods, The Rod Glove,X-zone Lures, IMA Lures and Numa Optics for their support

Could it have been a Burbot.http://www.qi.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=4816&start=0

Burbot do not have scales and they are not very toothy from my recolection handling them out of sample nets years ago in Hearst and Kapuskasing

CARPE DIEM

From what I could see viewing a few videos of Asian carp on the net they do not have large teeth. They are mainly plankton feeders apparently.

This is a northern snakehead. Look at the fins .This fish has a long ventral fin unlike a bowfin which has individual fins on the ventral surface .At first glance I thought it was a bowfin .closer inspection suggests otherwise .Real Therapy...Fishing with Big Rod tomorrow on the Detroit river for eyes ..will report after.

Guys, if you read all the posts, all the pictures posted in this thread are responses with possible suggestions. Do not panic, CH312 did not see a northern snakehead in Long Point Bay!!

...or a sheephead, bowfin, asian carp, blue pickerel, pacu, or any other fish that's been mentioned.

i'm totally stumped on this one as the closest thing i can find is that carp i posted, but it wasn't a carp as my fingers brushed it's head and i had a clear view of the row of teeth in it's mouth that were 1/8"-3/16" long.

i've been browsing charts of freshwater fish of north america and it's definitely an import from somewhere. hopefully just a single fish that someone released type deal

Anything similar to what's shown on this page? These are carp species with relatively small heads compared to body size. With the explosion in popularity with carp fishing in Ontario, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see new types popping up.

Or even a gizzard shad? It's normal for them to show up floating in the spring.
