I run nothing but wire dipsy rods and started out with 10'6 Shimano Tellora's. Last year I added a second set of wire 8'6 Rapala R-Type (now discontinued) for a high diver. ( run my deep Mag divers on #1, and my high divers on #3.5). I have got to the point now after running the shorter 8'6 rods that I don't even like the feel of the Looooong 10'6 anymore and I am finding my self just running the 8'6 90% of the time.
A lot of it comes down to boat size, and interior space. An extra 2+ feet takes a lot more room when fighting a fish, especially when you run a 8' lead behind the dipsy, then a flasher and cut bait...can be at 12' pretty quick!
