My parents lost a fence and landscaping, kept pumps running all night and as a result saved the cottage. High water just rolls over the dyke now with a south wind. Property value is virtually zero right now.

How did hastings hold up? Anyone been down there this week?

Don't understand why they build so close to the water when it's just a disaster waiting to happen. Over time some years lake water recedes and just like this year sometimes it rises then winds bring big waves then your in deep doo-doo. Same as building on flood plains whether around lakes or rivers/streams eventually they always find out the hard way why they are called just that "flood plains."

No one ever expected the water to be at the height it is now. Place is over 50 years old and built on top of a dyke. Lake Erie is at a record height, this is not "some years"...
