Hi fellow 68 members,
Thinking of trying the Grand River tomorrow, never really explored much of the river before especially below the Brantford area. I have a 10' hard plastic skiff with an electric motor. Looking for recommendations on where I could launch, drift down for approx 5 hours without portaging etc, catch some bass, and then pull the boat out at a ramp. I'm from the Burgessville area but willing to travel for the adventure.
Thanks in advance,
Moo

You could put in behind the casino(south side of the river)up from lions park and roll down river to cockshut bridg. Or put in at cockshut bridge and roll down to Newport bridge, thats a good little stretch or river around what they call the "oxbow". Either spot you will likely have to portage MAYBE once but you should be able to just get out of your boat and walk it over or around a riffle or 2. Water shallows up in a few spots to the point where you might want to just walk you rig over or around some fast water...and might be be able to to roll right on down if the water is high enough. Fish all the currant breaks/seems. There are many pockets/pools just after the fast shallow water. Smalliez and walleyes the odd pike and trout. I have spent many of day walking that whole stretch of river,im sure you will catch.
#3&4 blue fox spinners. Top water plugs like torpedoes and chug bugs. Cranks baits, let them bounce and dig to the bottom. And of course just a white jig.
Bring a small anchor if you can or pull up on shore..some of them deeper holes after a shallow flat are worth spending time on.

Is there a launch to pull the boat out at Newport?
There is a launch at cockshut. No launch at newport bridge but you be able to pull a small vessel/canoe up to the rd from there. If you roll down river from newport to the little village of Onondaga there is a launch there. That is a deeper stretch of river with no shallow waters that need walk around/portage,from newport to Onondaga. I have put a 16ft boat and trailer in at Onondaga many times. Be best to have 4x4 just incase if you do use it. It's a bit steep and all gravel&rock. I have seen cars pull there vessels out from there through.
Chiefswood is just maybe another mile down river from Onondaga and there is an actual boat launch there.
