Elbow

Wow SkyHacker, great day! We were also out there starting @ 10am, headed out just south of the reef , couldn't see nothing but could hear you on 68 ? We couldn't find the fish till later. Forgot the worm harnesses so did the # 4 to # 5 lead core / body baits, long leads on riggers 30 to 50 ' down, and bodes off boards. Marking lots but no takers till 130 then bang, bang, bang, missed a few also. Copper colour rip red fins on # 5 lead and riggers @ 30. We could hear a few guys on them, just took us a bit and not till we went back to 58 ' .
Haven't been to Hoovers for ten years, nice change from some of the other launches. Like the idea of sitting on the restaurant patio after a great day of fishing.

Yes I'm in about the middle of the road, best of both worlds :)
Anybody visiting Hoovers should try the wings on the patio. Life doesn't get much better.

Well u won't have it to yourself now glad you got your fish yesterday I seen all the trawlers heading that way good job I'm sure they appreciate the heads up on fishing

Longer then that for me---did they upgrade the ramps???

were in pretty bad shape last time I was there

They actually have a few cleats on the outside ramps, that's the extent of any upgrade for launching. Added 6 docks for visitors that will dock a large boat next to the gas pump. The center launch ramp is under water. Many upgrades to the docks for members. The previous owner is staying on for the season. There is now parking for a few thousand cars or trailers . If you go there again you will see what I mean. The rumours around here have been running amuck. Everything from a Casino to Condos. I don't know if I want to wake to the sound and sights of an operating Steel Plant.

Good job in the pea soup weather Sky Hacker. I was out as well in the fog, I did a slow troll out due to the weather. If it was a Silver Derby I would have done well, by the time I got to the Elbow it was early in the afternoon and did a couple of passes without a Walleye but at least the Silvers were less in numbers out there. I had to head back in as the wife noticed that Dover was socked in with the fog and was getting nervous. It was a bit interesting staying on a semi-straight troll though.

Yes no kidding jay I'm pretty sure they will find the fish just like the other 200 boats that will be out there if you want to give a fishing report tell everyone how you caught and colour as well as speed and how to keep the silver bass off your hooks that a fishing report since you have not in my experience seen you out at the elbow until u had some intell that was not from this website

If they did then you just move a few miles to the right or left. According to my way points i have picked up fish in 50-120 FOW all the way from the point to the reef from June-October with body baits, worm harnesses, spoons, riggers, planers, and lead core. Some days some things work better than others. Only secret to fishing is there is no secret... just keep trying stuff until something works.... and if the same thing works tomorrow, great.

If you think that the commercial Captains follow this or any other board to find fish you are woefully mistaken. They have been fishing out here for 100 years or more. Do you think Nanticoke Reef, The Hoover Shelf, 5 mile reef, Hastings, Woodlawn and hundreds of other hot spots were just discovered? Don't worry there are no secrets when it comes to the commercial guys. They have data up the wazoo going back generations. Big Dave was shown Woodlawn by a retired commercial fleet owner I know very well. Do you really think it's a new spot? He is in his late 70's and was on his first boat at 13 because he hated Farming. If you were born out here you had 2 choices without an education, be a farmer or a fisherman. He tells stories of all the spots we fish today going back before WW2 that he heard from his father, and his fathers father.

So fret not, they aren't fishing where they are because someone reports they caught 18 fish and tells us here on 6-8. He can tell you what the water temp was on July 20th 1958 at 05:00, where they dropped their boxes, how long they were soaked for and how many pounds of Smelt they caught and how much a pound they got for them. So don't worry about spilling the beans, they kinda already know the what, who, when, where and why when it comes to catching fish on Erie and just about everywhere else there are fish.

IT was a joke about the commercial fishermen trying to say u get info from someone on the board and then he catches fish not a problem why does someone need to brag on there catch give the guys some info and leave at that it is self serving to catch a bunch of fish take pictures and brag u caught them. I know that fishing boards are to share fishing info but we have gone to far when any guy out there with a boat reads the reports and shows up to fish when all the guys that fish the same area for years have been struggling to catch fish we finally have some good fishing and we have one guy that never fishes the elbow goes on and brags every time he catches fish when he would not be there if it wasn't for info some one give him throught a friend.

You just keep posting @Sky Hacker. Posting pictures of fish is up to you. We are fishermen man, no one is going to believe us anyway!! Someone on a different forum ( yes there are other forums, who da thunk?) asked me to prove we hammered them one day, no pics, no fish. Yea right. It's the old joke "how do you tell a fisherman is lying? Lips are moving.

You just keep it up Kiddo. You can PM me the heads up any day!!!!

And you can both settle down now, get to work or you will be late.

Congrats @Sky Hacker on the fantastic day banging Wally Walleyes! Ignore the naysayers and keep posting your success so others can gain knowledge as this is precisely what the forum was designed for by @stomp. Thanks for posting young man! (y)(y)(y)

I've heard guys talking on this site about the Elbow but have no idea where it is?
I'm out of Kitchener and have typically headed to Bruce for some Eyes but from what I have heard they are a tad slow this year.
Any insight you can provide re; Elbow in relation to Hoovers would be much appreciated as I might give it a spin on Sunday.
Sounds like ample parking anyway?!
