Downrigger rods & Rod/reel combod

My buddy decided he wanted to be a fisherman this year so we outfitted the boat with all okuma blue/white lightening rods for the dipseys, riggers, leadcore and replaced all the reels with coldwaters 453s. So some buddies have already picked it over and I kept two spares. The rest are up for grabs…I even have a left handed model in there I bought for my wife til she decided after her first time on the boat she was remaining a land based fisher. I am located up in Huron county near Brussels.

Oh yes. They are all a year old and spooled with 30lb mono.

Good afternoon. Are the rod/reel combos still available? A friend and I are thinking on trying dipsy fishing on Erie. We would be looking for rods/reels (4) suitable for that. Any help greatly appreciated.

Some people use them without any issues. To be honest I don’t know the difference but I am sure many guys do. I just use dipsy rods for my dipsys and rigger rods for my riggers.

the difference I notice in my rods-
Dipsy rods usually have more of a backbone so you can trip the dipsy easier. Rigger rods are usually softer. .
