Cayo Coco Cuba fishing

I've seen posts before about fishing in the area and was thinking of going this winter with a buddy. We don't do fancy but clean is nice. Does anyone have resort names they'd recommend (or not). What time of year is best, costs, gifts?? We're in Cambridge.
thanks
Mike

Although I have never fished the Cayo Coco area I hear the fishing is great there especially March through August. As for gifts my Cuban friends consider 300 yd spools of 80 lb. test Power Pro braid and Mustad Hoodlum 4X strong live bait hooks in sizes 6/0 to 8/0 as 24K gold. They commented to me that they constantly break hooks on the rocks but the Hoodlums I brought them break the rocks. 😁 Neither are cheap items but one thing I can tell you is you will have a friend for life if you give them as a gift. 👍 I might add that they are in need of most everything so will sincerely appreciate anything you give them as a gift believe me. :)

Poor Cuba was just getting back on it's feet after the Covid travel ban and recent power outages and an earthquake doesn't help much either. I wouldn't expect much and having a Plan "B" be a good idea. Maybe check out Tripadvisor for recent reports ?

Gran Caribe club villa Cojimar...right next door is the causeway from cayo Coco and cayo gulermo...great bridge... shore fishing for snapper grouper Cuda etc...and the marina right there with lots of options to go out fishing the reefs deep sea etc....all walkable..I'm not sure on the accommodations these days ..but last time I was there 10 yrs ago...it was fine...not to fancy but clean ..beauty beach ..fishing was awesome...bring your own fishing gear for the shore bridge fishing and be sure to hook up with locals there ..gifts are very much appreciated as waverunner talked about ...I always make a change for someone's life down there.🙂🍻🎣✌️

Tarpon bonefish grouper jack creville barracuda shark this island owned by Cuba is total tranquility. I did hear the waters having sanctuary.
The Italian owner of the skiffs he chartered for fishing out of Cayo Largo were 5 star he also supplied fly rods and spinning rods. And artificial baits from flys to jigs. I was also trolling yo zuris for catching tasty grouper.

Fished at cayo gulermo, a year ago October, Caught 7 barracuda and 1 sailfish. Then went lobster fishing and the captain cooked fresh lobster and sailfish for us. Great experience and cheap. 5 of us went, $460 with tip
