Carping

I caught a carp by accident last month and it was my first one ever. I was fishing with light gear for bluegills and got it on a worm and 6# line. The carp turned out to be 18 lbs!!! Since then I've been hooked on carping. They are a lot smarter than you'd think, and they put up a fight equal to a salmon. I caught another 18lber today and it took 25 mins to land it, this time on 12# line. It just wouldn't come up and I was starting to think I had a channel cat on. Too bad eating carp isn't a thing here, they sure would provide a lot of food.

My first carp ever.

Lady you are right they are a fighter. I believe they actually are more scrappy than equal weight salmon. Carp fishing is a huge sport in Europe and catching on here as well. Start googling it and you will find a big following and gear to suit. I love catching them when to windy for the lake.
Also a lot of Asian folk will eat carp gladly. SO if any around offer it up to them. I have tried it but a tad oily for my taste.

I do little carp fishing as well i catch them on caned corn caught this
one the other night fished till dark then switch over and fish for big cats

I have a cousin in Hungary and that is what they fish for most of the time! Plus the smaller ones here in the spring are very tasty!

Here is a pic of one they caught last year

I hope that you will look in to carp fishing early spring just after the happy season for them, and you will discover that there is mor to fishing than just bass, walleye, pike, perch. It is a great fishery. All we have to do is to take care of it. Have fun fishing.

Nice catch! They were jumping a lot today on Black Creek. A few weeks ago they were spawning in Nanticoke Creek and man did I see some big ones! I saw some that were at least 30lbs!. TC

I think I took this picture two years ago. My son an I used to do a bit of carp fishing. Kernel corn seemed to work best for us. Lots of carp from 15 to 30 lbs.
P.S This isn't where we fished. We fished in the Thames River.
