Headed out with the 3 children and arrived at the marina around 4pm to find only 3 vehicles in the parking lot. It was comical listening to the kids talk trash about everyone for being scared of the rain.
Setup 5 rods in 50 fow straight out of port and headed south to 58 fow picking up multiple fish each time we marked big schools.
Id guess we landed around 20 of the little guys in the 12-14" range. Awesome fish for the children to reel in and practice netting skills. Kept 6 little guys to cook whole, 4 around 20" and another 4 around 26". Lost 5 in the bigger size ranges close to the boat. Also landed a handful of sheephead and a half dozen what i believe were white perch?
Small dipsys (maybe 2 1/2"?) 200' back on setting 3 took 70% of the fish with willowleaf worm harnesses in blue/purple and blue/chartreuse. The rest hit a white/pink/black willowleaf harness on 6 colors lead. Couldn't get anything on bigger dipsys or riggers running cranks, spoons and even the same harnesses that were working on the small divers. They wouldnt touch harnesses with colorado blades.
Speed was 2.5-3 mph with many hits coming when the kids were playing with the rods either reeling in or letting line out. We all know speed changes often trigger hits and the children messing with the rods was key to our success today.
Great evening on the water with the kids and the tons of action really kept them entertained and wanting more. We had planned on staying out after dark, but when we ran out of worms therr was no point continuing to fish.
