Burwell - July 10

Hey All,

Long time lurker, first time poster - we're planning our first trip to Erie this Saturday. We've been following the weather for a while now and it looks like they'll be some good fishing weather this weekend, we have 17' boat. Was hoping for a few pointers on exactly where to fish and the boat launch.

1) The plan is drop the boat at Big Otter, if we get there by 8AM on Saturday will there be a line up? Do we need to reserve a spot before?
2) We aiming for anywhere between 40 - 70 ft fow.
3) From reading other posts it looks like we can just head straight out of the Marina until we find the correct fow? Or are there any specific areas we can aim for in our GPS

Any additional tips or advice will be much appreciated!
Thanks,
NFC

I haven't been to Burwell this season but can confirm that yes, with a nice weather forecast, good fishing reports, and this being a license-free family fishing week (including this weekend), there will definitely be a line at 8 am Saturday.

Thanks for the reply Crestliner.

Re: your other questions, there's no need (or way) to reserve a spot, you can just show up and get in line. Make sure to have everything ready to go before it's your turn to launch - plug in, straps off, gear ready, etc. so that you can quickly drop your boat in and then make room for the next. Line ups to get off the lake in particular can be a gong show, suggest just keeping your cool and being patient, expect to have to wait around on a Saturday.

As for questions #2 and #3, reports on this site should point you in the right direction. If you have a vhf radio, monitor channel 6-8 and you may pick up some real time info. Others may post 'live' reports on this site on Saturday.

IMO there's not a lot of fixed 'structure' out there that concentrates fish - finding them is a game of water temps, food, schools. Try different locations but also different lure depths until you find them. Details are always changing but there's no shortage of fish out there. Surely others will chime in with more pointers.

Good luck on your first trip out.

Appreciate the response Crestliner. In general do you know how far from the Marina you would usually go out to hit the fish spots?

40 FOW isn't that far, maybe 4 miles? 70 is a fair trek. It is a very gradual slope. If this is your first time on Erie, monitor weather carefully and make sure you have a compass and other safety gear on board.
Will do, appreciate the info.

Can't reserve a spot, first come first served, there will be a big lineup, go straight out to about 50 fow, they are high in the water column, around 5 to around 30 ft mark, I used 4 colors of lead core & spoons, good luck, give us a report
