Had a request from @stomp for a Bloomin' Onion so rather than suggest we go out for dinner and order one, I decided to give it a try and make it at home. Found some lovely looking sweet Vidalia onions and a recipe that was apparently modelled after the Bloomin' Onion you can order at Outback Steakhouse. It was a mess to prepare (will make breaded chicken seem like a breeze next time) and I was so worried about it falling apart that I didn't open the onion pieces up far enough to get the multiple layers of egg/flour+spice between the cracks. It turned out looking sort of like the real thing, but didn't meet the quality criteria IMO. I made up for it with Tiramisu. That's enough fat and sugar for this month.
