old mercs from 1978ish had a 90 hp to 150 hp all identical except the power head was different,you could put the power head from a 150 on yur 90 and have 150 hp

Looks like the difference between the two gaskets is about 30 seconds with an exacto knife.

Yup, could have easily modified the original gasket. But for $5 I was just as well off to throw it on my order for a new impeller that likely need replacing as well....looking forward to seeing what kind of performance change I'll see before and after! I'll be fiddling with prop pitch as well to see what kind of speed I can squeeze out of my 14'

On the other hand I'm also considering ordering up a jet drive for it and slapping it on a 1448 for river fishing

I've been playing on this issue with my 20HP Yamaha. From what iv found online my 20hp is just a de-tuned 25Hp.
