Thought I’d share how my fishing season was this year. I’m still hoping to get out a coyote more times but we will have to see how the winds and conditions are over the next couple weeks.
First trip of the season was April 14th on GBay out of Owen Sound, my nemesis of all lakes. We marked lots of fish but only managed to hook and land one and one of my deepest fish ever…down 200 over 220 fow. Next trip was down on Lake Ontario on a buddies boat which was May 5th. We got a couple salmon..a few lakers and one unicorn. Next trip was out on my boat out of Port Weller and the plan for the day was boat across in to US waters and fish there as for some reason the fish were staying on that side of the lake. We stopped about 3 miles in and then started to troll towards Wilson and we had a fantastic day. We went 14 for 20 and not one of those fish were lakers all nice spring Kings. I have never marked as many fish in my entire life as we did that trip, fish everywhere and watching them fly by on the Panoptics was unreal. Next trip was May 18th on a buddies boat with the same game plan as the previous trip and another successful trip it was. We kept five and landed at least 10 and out them back and I dropped five fish that day myself. Next trip was out of Grimsby and we were hoping to pick up some Coho’s but we could not buy a coho for our lives but we did manage a few kings and a ton of lakers. Word after that trip as lots of guys were having a hard time locating coho’s this spring. We did one trip out of fisherman’s pier and headed towards Grimsby as I was helping to try and locate some kings for two of my buddies that were fishing the Veterans Derby but all we could find were lakers that way. We pulled rods after a while and headed up back towards Bronte and we were able to boat two kings. I fished the north shore three times in June and we managed some nice kings each trip and a few bows. July 3rd and go out of Port Glasgow for the first Erie trip, as we were coming out of the harbour and about to go on plane and well the motor was going fast but the boat was not going anywhere. Started the kicker and said let’s go boys we are still fishing. Despite the rain we plowed on through and boxed 15 fish before calling it a day as another storm was coming our way and going in on the kicker was going to take a while. Luckily thanks to a 68 member Scrimmy, I was able to join him a couple times and we had some really good fishing days together. Thanks again Scrimmy for allowing me join. I finally get my boat back just after the August long weekend but between work and weather trips were far and few between. Did go up to OS on the Wednesday a week before the derby was to start and we had a good day again despite the raining storming weather. We put 3 in the box and if it wasn’t for the lighting chasing us off for about an hour I think we may have been able to boat a few more fish. I went up to fish the Thursday afternoon and Friday morning leading in to the long weekend and I had a few knock offs but no fish to enter. Total for the year 65 fish landed in my boat for the season. I was shooting for 100 but losing a month of fishing hurt that number. I hope everyone had a great season. As everyone is starting too think about putting their boat away for the year, I am already counting down the days till next spring king fishing. Here are a few pictures from this year.
