Boat cleaning

Hello everyone hope you all had a great summer I’m wondering what everyone is using to clean the scum off your boat I had mine docked in burwell and couldn’t believe when I took it out

Hello sorry I don’t have a product to recommend
I docked my old boat one year and was shocked as well

I was told my mistake was taking it out and not cleaning it right away.
Once you let it dry on it takes 10x as much effort and product to get it off
Hope this helps for the future 👍

There was a thread posted back in September “Boat Cleaners” I think. If you type that into the search box, you may find it. There was some good discussion there on some products to use.

I had a slip there too, pulled mine out in July. It's trailer boating for me unless I can find a slip that is only open to lake and no river. Cleaning was done by Biddle Marine Services, $16 per foot so my 18 footer cost $288.00 plus $35 in chemicals then $41.99 for tax for a total of $364.99. Looks like new , would highly recommend.

This was my first year with a fiberglass hull and was worried about using the wrong product so I did some research and found a great product from Aurora Marine call Algae Strip. The gallon jug cost $127.45 and only used 1/2 of it. They suggested using a paint roller to apply or spray but paint roller uses less product. I ended up using the paint roller method, power washed, applied more on some tuff area's, powered washed again and turn out perfectly. The company has some really great product on the website and worth checking it out.

Here's the link and some pics.

My boat is parked in Burwell seasonally.

I have tried 3 brand name boat cleaners on my aluminum Lund.

The only product that did any significant cleaning of the boat was Muriatic Acid, (the 4th product) but it requires respect.

A TON of respect.

I have a quart bottle of of one, and half a powdered tub of another specialized cleaner that are available for free for someone's use because I won't be using them up.

They did next to nothing on my boat.

Muriatic acid always for me. Cleans it right up. Have had a boat in Burwell for many years. Used it in my aluminum boat for years and now my trophy with no issues

I've wanted to try Muriatic acid but have questions. Do you dilute it? How do you apply it? What about the runoff down the driveway etc?
Thanks

I used Spray 9 Marine from CT and it did a great job this year.

I use it full strength. I apply it with a weed sprayer. Just be sure to rinse the sprayer good afterwards. It is hard on galvanized trailers painted trailers no problem. I do it on the grass it yellows it but comes back in no time

thanks for the reply, I'll try that next year.

I have a fibreglass boat, only use diluted muriatic acid. I have a half mask respirator, safety goggles and every year I buy a white chemical suit. I spray it on, brush, rinse. Done in a couple of hours.
