I use Dawn Soap. Warm or Cold. Gets the stains out. With a terry towel and maybe a soft brush. Works for me.

If it is a Dual-Purpose battery- you are good to go! For starting/ cranking- never Deep- Cycles. Dual-Purpose- No problem!
