A tough 5 hour’s of fishing for me today,from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. I launched out of Port Franks Marina & headed straight into 55 feet of water,and I trolled to 68
feet of water, where apparently the salmon have been caught. I was using two lead core rod’s,one was set at around 35 fow & the other one was set at 25 fow.I tried numerous different body baits such as bomber’s,smithwick’s,etc. Silver Streak Spoon’s were also used, such as pink panties, piston cup, etc. It was great to be back in my boat again for the first time this year,(the lockdown didn’t help either),plus because my 9.9 hp kicker outboard motor was recently just repaired as well. The salmon are out there, according to some of the angler’s that I had talked to later, because they had caught some salmon today.Plus, the next time I will need to bring my downrigger which would of definitely would of helped!! I am already looking forward to be doing some salmon fishing again real soon!! I also need to get out on the water much earlier then at 9 a.m. like I did today. Tight lines to All & Be safe!! 🚤🎣🐟👍🙂

lol 😆 @Ticker and very true!! 👊👊😉 Salmon are tougher to figure out for me at least anyways. It was only my first trip out for them this year, and usually I start fishing for them on Lake Huron in May of each year, but the lockdown closed up all of the boat ramps that I like to use. Here’s hoping for light winds ahead for our Great Lakes & tight lines and Fish ON!! 🚤🎣🐟👍🙂

Congrats @Red Hering on getting out fishing on lake huron...sorry to read the fish did not cooperate..that calm water in your picture, looks like tuff fishing conditions to me..

I have done alot of huron fishing over many years, but never fished off of the famous for spring salmon Port Franks...how was the facilites there at the marina...other then the fish was it over all a good experience making the Port Franks trip..

Better luck next time out..

Thanks @mick 👍👍🙂 and yes the calm lake conditions was tough
for salmon fishing, and I like it a little rougher for sure, but still safe for boating/fishing. It was a good test run for the first time for my boat this year, and all went well for my outboard’s,and fishing equipment, etc. The facilities at the Port Franks Marina,($25 to launch),2DEC3526-26D9-467A-9B4D-8A423275D8C6.jpeg was not bad. My biggest complain there is,that the main gate at the gatehouse doesn’t open till 8 a.m.,and it always has been like that over the year’s.A seasonal gate pass is around $250,if anyone wants to get at the boat ramp a lot earlier. A lot of my salmon in the past,(launching from other boat ramp’s that were open early-honour system),were caught very early, and that to me at least makes a big difference,by getting on the water—Early!! The boat ramp there is open to only on the left side C9DF49A1-4E1A-4807-8E67-AEE4A7BF71B7.jpeg right now,(the right side could be useable, but no dock to step on,from your boat, and to tie up your boat, but maybe later? 🤔),which can create a lineup from other boater’s trying to get in or out on the left side!! The parking is also very limited right now,due to a very large boat 319CE60B-7949-4E87-B60F-B9837D2B7CF5.jpeg taking up a few parking spaces!! Maybe they will move this boat away later? There is a very clean portable toilet there as well if needed. The staff is friendly & all and all,it was fun just to be out there on a lake yesterday. Tight lines & Fish ON!! to All!! 🚤🎣🐟👍🙂

Maybe the salmon just didn't like all those "RED" lures you were running. 😜😂 Nice you finally got your boat out for a good run anyway Erich. How did the kicker run since you got it fixed? By the way the photos look great from the new phone and better luck next time out. 👍:D

Thanks @Red Hering for your detailed report with Port Franks marina..

myself I was up on Lake Huron last mid summer season off both Kincardine and 3X Port Elgin...both harbour ports continue to have great facilites..including top notch indoor fish cleaning...boat ramp was still free at Kincardine and Port Elgin was $12.. I personally enjoy the fishing off of Saugeen Shores..and J&S tackle shop in town has been very helpful..I think whats outstanding in both towns is how friendly the people are including the local fishermen..
