ROC License for VHF

unless your fooling around on the radio your never going to get checked or nailed for no certificate. if you are fooling around you will prob get nailed with something else even with the certificate lol.
I do have one though got it around 2001 when it was like a 8 hr in classroom course lol.
how do you add ROC to your porfile banner?

Btw; For those that like their courses "old school" CPS is running one in Cambridge on November 16th from 0900-1700hrs at a cost of 125 bucks per person and if you pass you walk out with a temporary certificate.

My 2 cents...

There is alot of "supposed to's" in this world...

If it makes you sleep better at night... Take the course... Get the certificate...

I've had one on my boat since day one... I've used it once in a emergency situation when I found a man overboard boat...

I dealt with opp marine unit and coast guard... Never was asked if I had a license...

If you are a ahole... There are lots of ahole charges in life... ;)

I think a fixed vhf should be mandatory for any vessel going past a mile from shore...

*16 on your cellphone also contacts coast guard...

You said it @jammer

The first thing the guy told me when I registered, before the course began: When you start up your boat, always turn the radio on and monitor 16. If you need it or can assist someone USE THE DAMN THING.

And I agree about fishing offshore... I got one with DSC so that even the kids could press the red button. I'd rather not go on someone else's boat without a radio and a kicker... but I still do 🤣

What Jammer said.☝️ I took the course 30 plus years ago, not licensed. I turn my radio on while on the water. Not only for my own safety but for others with smaller boats who may experience issues. I also own and use Baofeng hand held radios while hunting with friends. They push 5 plus watts while transmitting, not licensed. But never any interference from the others around you with cheaply Midlands

@Octavius Brine do you have MMSI number programmed into it?

Without, the big red button is a decorative feature. 🌻
Yep, I've got it properly set up (i.e. MMSI programmed in, and proper connection to my Garmin to report the GPS data...). Thanks :)

I test it now and then to be sure it works (the radio, not the red button LOL)
