Lemonade...

If you have lemons make lemonade right?

What do you do if your peach tree snaps in half? Make... Peach dump cake, peach upside down cake, and lots of peach jam and preserves. The weather was nice so we decided to jar in the backyard with the šŸ's today.

We still ended up with 16lbs of edible fruit, the chickens probably got 4 or 5 lbs. We have since planted 2 new trees in its place.

Both the upside-down cake and dump cake were cooked on the Traeger. We used hickory pellets because that was what was in the hopper. They were both cooked at 350Ā°f until cake mix was done. Very easy recipes, if you can call them that. I must say they were both excellent, no clear winner.

Shame about the tree, takes awhile to get them to produce not to mention the cost. Last year was a poor year for fruit but this year the trees are loaded, too much so I'm afraid. I have trees that I can usually mow under that I can't this year due to too much fruit weighing down the branches.
At least you salvaged the crop.

Definitely a mistake I won't make again. Sometimes less really is more..

True @Old Cut LongPointer , we ended up with 18 jars of jam/ preserves. The 2 cakes and a few good just to eat. I've never had peach jam before, we like it. Hopefully our family and friends do as well.

Next week is apples. My sister gave us around 100lbs. I think they need some time to ripen. So if you have any good apple recipes for canning, let us know.

PB&P....peanut butter and peach jam on toast or a sandwich....delish.

love peach jam, you won't be disappointed, try some on ice cream too.

Mowed the grass in the orchard yesterday to find one old apple tree lost a big branch due to too much fruit. Not sure whether to cut it off clean (if possible ?) or do it in the Fall.

Hopefully I can do a clean cut so it will heal as it depends on how badly it is fractured at the base of the limb. Usually you trim a branch off and leave 6 to 12 inches of it then do a closer cut but leave a bit of a bump of the branch to heal over. If the branch has ripped away part of the main trunk it leaves it open to rot or disease.
