I believe it is a vent, and it's some type of bee, there are a lot of them around this year.

No, even though allergic, bees live.

Wasps/hornets do die though.

I convinced it to find alternative housing.

I've had the bastards plug up my bilge pump line over a weekend once. That sucked when the next time I was out, lost a rivet and had to tear the line apart to unplug it before sinking

Spiders are horrible for that!! Check mine every time before going out if it's been sitting more then a couple weeks
