For the past few years I have written a poem for Christmas. This year, I couldn't do it, so I'll share last year's with you.
Christmas isn’t about those things,
That get placed under the tree.
It isn’t about what you get,
Or what you give to me.
It isn’t about who spent the most,
Nor who spent the least.
It isn’t about the snow that falls,
Nor the turkey or roast beast.
It’s not about the shopping,
Nor the threat “behave or else.”
It’s not about some reindeer,
Nor the man who employs elves.
It’s not about the newest craze,
Or the coolest of new toys.
These are the things we think of most,
When we’re little girls and boys.
No, Christmas is about those,
Most important in your life.
The ones you hold close and dear.
Kids, siblings, parents, husband and/or wife.
It’s about the fondest memories shared,
Of those who have passed on.
It’s about the story telling,
For when remembered, they are not gone.
It’s about the birth of a child born,
So very many years ago.
Under a star in Bethlehem,
Men gifts on Him bestowed.
It’s a time of showing charity,
To those less off with greater needs.
It’s a time for thinking selflessly,
And performance of good deeds.
It’s a time to come together,
As we do at this time each year.
To wish our friends and family,
Love, peace, goodwill, and cheer.
Christmas isn’t about those things,

It’s about those who sit around it,
And those who here with us, could not be.
