And I don’t think there is anything magical about them running onto the neighbours property therefore removing all my chances of being able to hunt that bird
Also makes him extra wary next time he comes over to play
Y’all welcome to do and believe what you will. You’re thinking these turkeys are much smarter than they really are which is why you’re not getting what single malt is saying. Literally running at a strutting tom while yelling and screaming won’t even scare them to the next property for days or weeks like you assume, he’ll be back that same day. Sometimes less than an hour from when he was spooked.
Busting birds that are locked down due to feeding or breeding and calling them back is a well known and common tactic for taking the wariest toms.
What you’re saying (spooked to another property for a while, educated for next time, patterning humans) applies to deer, but most definitely not Turkey.
Was just thinking a much better term for what I like to do is Sneak and Snipe rather than the reckless sounding Run and Gun.Got my second this morning. 1st one was opening day over decoys. This one was running and gunning ( more sneaking and listening) with no decoys. Both work neither is wrong. It’s supposed to be a fun hunt so do it how you enjoy it best.
