Most are aware that we now hold our LPWA Youth Hunt on the Special Youth Heritage Hunting day which allows young hunters a special day a week before the regular opening of the season. We will have 18 Young Hunters out this year as part of our event. However Hunters with young people at home do have access to the other blinds in the Unit. I have cut this from the 2014 Rules which lets you know how to reserve a blind for that day.

Waterfowler Heritage Day Hunt

On the Third Saturday in September, on “Waterfowler Heritage Day” as established by the CWS, the LPWA and Long Point Waterfowl co-host a youth hunt in the Unit. On this date, hunting will be permitted within all parts of the LPWMU except the DUC's Sinclair-Campbell project pit blinds. The first 20 blind assignments will be given to the youth hunters who participate in the LPWA/LPW hosted Heritage Hunt.

Individuals who do not wish to participate in the LPWA/LPW Heritage Hunt may apply for a blind reservation a minimum of two weeks in advance of Waterfowler Heritage Day. The line-up, drive in, or re-rent processes will not be available on that day. The process for applications to the Heritage day on Sept 20th will be submit a reservation request via email to Longpointwaterfowlunit@gmail.com indicating your desire to partake in the Heritage day. The first 20 application requests will be accepted and a draw will be made to indicate the selection order. Emails must be submitted prior to Sept. 8th. Indicate the youth hunter name, date of birth, the name of the Mentor that will be assisting, and a phone number. All emails received will be given a response as to acceptance and what order there choice will be on the Morning of Sept 27th.

Hunting for this program will be permitted from ½ hour before sunrise until 12 noon. All parties must check out at the unit office by 1:00PM.

Only ONE firearm (Youth Hunter) is permitted while participating in this program. The mentor is not permitted to have a firearm or engage in any hunting.
