Some info for this year's Derby on Long Point Bay - Opening Day June 27th. Tickets are out and we have the same line up of prizes as last year - $1000 for each of the largest Smallmouth and Largemouth, prizes to top 10 in each category and a draw for a 14 foot Lund, 15hp Merc and trailer package just for buying a $10 ticket!

There's an under 18 category ($2 ticket) with their own list of prizes since they are not eligible to enter a raffle (Ontario Gaming Laws). The only catch for the juniors is the fish must be alive to enter - we don't want to see small dead bass coming to the weigh-in station.

All proceeds from the Derby support local conservation and hunting and fishing initiatives.

Here's hoping we all have a great opening day and the fish are plentiful!

Sam, you are correct, the adult category bass do not have to be alive.

If you intend to eat your catch that's fine but usually a dead fish will lose weight so live is better for you. Fish must be in good condition with no signs of tampering (any indication that the fish was taken illegally) and no evidence of an attempt to artificially increase the weight of the fish.

The live release boat will be on hand to release all fish that are not destined for the dinner plate.

McMinnow83 - sorry but this is a bass derby and the two categories keep us busy enough. I expect landing that carp was enough of a prize in itself!

hi is there still time to register .also do you have to have 2 people per boat .could one person enter the tournement..new to this my brother inlaw tournement fishishs alot

Hi Shadiezz,
This is an individual entry derby. You can have as many people on the boat as you want from 1 to the boat's capacity. Each person interested in entering the derby should get their own ticket which also gets them their personal chance to with the boat package. This is a very relaxed derby with no official start time other than the legal opening of the bass season and you can launch from any location you choose - the weigh in doesn't start until 9:00am and closes at 4:00pm sharp. A full list of the derby rules are on the back of the tickets which are available at locations listed on the poster (under the original post of this thread).
