How old is that fish?

Very informative.

While on holidays back in December near John's Pass FL, Fisheries Management was taking samples from many of the Grouper and a few of the Red Snapper brought in commercially for the same purpose.

They took a different piece of bone from the back of the skull. Said they dried the sample, cross cut it, dyed it, and then aged the fish. Same process, counting rings.
 
It's an interesting video and thanks for posting @Extra Virgin but you can really tell this guy is a typical fisherman. :D

He starts by saying at the 2:23 mark of the video "this is a 12 1/2 or 13 inch yellow perch... then at the 2:54 mark suddenly it has grown to "this is a 14-15 inch yellow perch." LOL!!! :whistle::LOL:
