Just need a few pointers before this weekend. My brother and I are heading down for the first time.

1. Where would be the best place to put in for this weekend ?
2. Is there any local motels in that area ?

Thanks for your help

la salle is the ramp 5 mins to fishing
amherstburg has a cheap motel blue haven I think or lots in Windsor

Do you know if they are open ? I'm not having much luck on line, called a few places but it is late and may just be closed for the day

@dirtbike. like my reply to another thread, see Big Rod's posts and PM him he's already hit the river once this season........ We were down that way last June we stayed West of Kingsville in a nice motel called Adams Golden Acres Motel... Great rooms with a nice kitchenette...... It's right on HWY 20 and about 30 min drive to a launch near the river........

Cheers Bic

Most of the guys around here fish the Lower river and launch at Lasalle which I do a lot too but there are some options. If it's not too busy I often launch at Mckee Park and fish mid-river which is a little more scenic than the lower river and fishing is usually decent even right in front of the park. If you want to try the upper river you can launch at Lakeview Park Marina; theres lots of good places along the Canadian side from the marina down to the casino.

As far as staying in Windsor, you don't want to book anything downtown since the motels are not boat friendly and your boat will likely be missing or burned when you get up in the morning. We used to stay at the ABC Motel on Dougall Ave since it was cheap and lots of fisherman hung out there but it has gotten pretty rundown lately. There is a Super 8 and a Comfort Inn on Huron Church at the EC Row Parkway which are both boat friendly and away from downtown. I have stayed at both and they are a little more money but much nicer. These are about a 10 minute drive to any of the launches. Another post mentioned Adam's Golden Acres in Kingsville which is a good place to stay if you're fishing Colchester in the spring but it's a long way from Windsor. You would be very wise to get a Michigan fishing license since some days the Canadian side is unfishable due to winds and dirty water. Michigan DNR link is below.

Good Luck and make sure to post a report! We'll be heading down next week for a few days.

Lasalle Launch: Good place to launch to fish around Fighting Island and the Lower river. Ramp fee is about 10 bucks and go early as the parking can get full.

Mckee Park: Okay ramp for smaller boats (I launch my 18' no problem), limited parking but a good central place to launch to fish mid-river, around the bridge, and the Windsor & Detroit waterfronts.. Free ramp, close to downtown.

Lakeview Park Marina: Great ramp, lots of parking. Only for fishing the upper river near the mouth from Lake St. Clair and down to the bridge, Ramp fee is about 15 bucks I think.

The ramp at Coopers is crap.My trailer has about two inches on each side for error,if you screw up your trailer is sitting on its axle.As of last weekend they didn't have there markers out,you need markers there to get out to the channel in that marina.
