Do any of the advanced tech guys out there have any tricks on cleaning out exhaust manifolds on a Mercruise 5L? I winterized the big girl this week and when I drained the port manifold, very little water came out. Probed the discharge hole and found a lot of black slug substance. Starboard side drained well. I will be changing out the spark plugs/ wires before wrapping which will require manifold removal so now is the time to either clean the manifolds if possible or replace them. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Could the black be pieces of rubber from a failing impeller? I would run some more water through it and try to clear it,

Normally cast iron blocks and manifolds are dunked in a tank at a reliable engine rebuilder . Safest and best way to do it cost is very little . I would not try the try this method at all .
