Headed out with Albert and one of my grandsons leaving Simcoe at 9:00 am. By 10:00 am we had 6 keepers 2.5 to 4 pounds and released one that was too big to keep. We continued "catch and release fishing" for another 2 hours landing several more pike and a few SM Bass. One of the hazards of...
Hi Jim, Good to hear from you and also happy that the majority of pike are spawned out. It was pretty discouraging filleting perch yesterday when the waste was mostly eggs. The fillets from the few males I had in my share provided 3 times the edible meat when compared to the average female. I...
Yeah! Agree....don't usually fish for perch this time of year. Typically the weather doesn't encourage participation and I prefer to target pike in May. Not much meat on female perch right now.
Beautiful day! Targeted perch for 3 hours with Albert starting at 10:15 am in the west end with a fleet of other angler's. The fishing was excellent with average perch about 10". The problem was that the majority were big females. We released all the jumbo (F) but have no idea if doing so...
Yeah! they caught lots of fish over the years. The balsa wood AC's out produced the Rapala. That said, when I tried my first Rapala, probably 65 years ago, I thought they should be outlawed because they were so much better than any other bait I had ever tried. The only problem now is that I...
Agree with Old Cut LongPointer Jim. I hunted the Unit for a lot of years and the only boating accidents I remember involved Jon Boats. Fortunately nobody was seriously hurt but at least one gun was lost and I was involved in the decoy recovery a few times. I also witnessed two of the...
Used the bow mount electric on anchor mode and the sonar was showing 5.6 to 7.1 feet of water. I guess when we swung over the bottom vegetation it indicated the lessor amount. When I pressed the anchor button the sonar was showing 7.3.
Probably the last day for 2023. Not much for hard water fishing. Three of us got 60 nice perch today, mostly in the afternoon once the wind came up to 5 to10 mph. The morning was calm and s-l-o-w. We quit at 2:00 pm. Albert got cold and we had enough fish. We launched at Collins but bought...
Congratulations! Like you said, it doesn't get much better. More than enough to eat and your back should survive filleting 20 fish. That said, my back was giving out with a lot less.
Yeah! Haven't been able to get out much with my own boat this past season. Thankfully Emil invited me out walleye fishing in Burwell a few times.
Couldn't contribute much other than drive the boat but it was still great to be out there and participate. Hope 2024 is better.
Launched at Collins and fished for approx. 3-1/2 hours with shiner minnows, using spoons and a drop shot rig. Lots of dinks but the two of us also caught 28 nice keepers from 8 to 10 or 11". Not great, but we started with spoons as attractors. Last time out that presentation was dynamite but...
Like you, I've used the balsa wood version for over 40 years and seriously doubt that the cedar version would compare when used to target the same species of fish. The heavier body bait would probably be better for musky or pike that simply destroy the original.
