From March 16th until the second Sunday in May Walleye season in the Thames is closed East of the Kiel Dr Bridge in Chatham Does anyone, has anyone fish(ed) the Thames West of the bridge to the mouth of the Thames at Lake St Claire during this time? Have you had any success?

It use to be closed Yeats ago from middlemiss bridge, they would just fish from other side on..so I assume you can just fish west of keil bridge in Chatham.

@crocker.jeff.r back about 5 year’s ago, I and a young lad that I took along with me that day,who loves fishing as much as I do,and we both tried walleye fishing west of the Keil Bridge in Chatham and in numerous spot’s downstream, casting off the Thames riverbank. We didn’t catch anything that day,and we hardly saw anyone else on the Thames River either. Most angler’s I believe are fishing near lighthouse cove, and the Detroit River, etc., and mostly out of their boat’s,for much better luck there. I also found the Thames River not as appealing west of the Keil Bridge, like it is east of the Keil Bridge, meaning that, the west section to me looks mostly like “dead water,” meaning just flat and muddy with no rapid’s,etc.,compared to further up from the east side of the Keil Bridge. Therefore,I personally don’t walleye fish the Thames River anymore once the walleye sanctuary starts, after March 15th,till the walleye sanctuary is over on the east side of the Keil bridge, and this year it will be on the second Saturday in May,2023. Hopefully this helps you somewhat, and maybe, tight lines & walleye’s on for you,if you are planning on walleye fishing it,on the west side of the Keil Bridge. 🎣🐟🐟🤞👍🙂

I would think most fish would be closer to Delaware gravel beds in the spawning grounds, no reason for them to sit in the muck

Very true & a good point @Truck26 👊👊 and myself and a couple of friends were just starting to catch the walleye’s,around the Delaware area on the last day of the Walleye season,( March 15/23),near some faster flowing water, and gravel bed’s in the spawning grounds, and no reason for them to sit in in the muck,as you had mentioned. 🎣🐟 👍👍🙂
