I figured with a break from fake winter 1.0 I'd head to a local creek to catch some minnows for the upcoming ice season. What is your bait of choice to put inside? Today's meal consist of bread & a tin of very old cat food.
I put a couple of dace in my aquarium last year and they are still alive and wellDepending on time of year there may not be any minnows in your creek, or that spot in particular. But generally minnows are found almost anywhere. I used to trap them in Kapuskasing for a living. Hardest job I ever had, but quite rewarding.
I remember trapping $10,000 of fatheads and emeralds over 3 days. Too bad most of that went to the owner!
Then you have other days where you cut 10km of trail into a promising lake... only to find loads of sticklebacks. Apparently there's a market for those now? Back then that wasn't the case.
Best trick I learned if you're trapping lots of minnows; use tranquilizer during transport. Not sure where you can get it though.
My experience exactly.I just filled a 210L Rubbermaid tote 2/3 full of well water & a cheap aerator from Wal-Mart. I put a laundry mesh bag ontop to keep them from jumping out and my cats from going fishing.
