Does the size designate the diameter - ie: is the #5 inside diameter 5 mm?

Good question. But not sure of the answer. What I can tell you is size 5 is what they use on silver streak spoons & rac spoons for there spoons that are 3" long. Size 6 are used on 4 to 4 1/2 inch spoons. Size 4 are use on there 2 inch spoons. Hope this helps you out
