Road Trip Rama Restaurants

I'm just back from a road trip to Casino Rama. I'm not a casino person, but I've never been and figured the road trip would be nice with some fall colours, and maybe appropriate, given that I had the day off. @Mrs. Stomp liked the looks of the Yard House restaurant menu on their web site. The resort wasn't busy at all on a Thursday and the restaurants, well, let's say they are just now appearing to be recovering the pandemic. The buffet was open for the first time in years, we were told. The Yard House menu was totally not what was published online - it's all bar food now - wings, chicken strips and fries, poutine, frozen pizza. That wasn't super appetizing, so we headed over to the pricier St. Germaine's, but when we saw pan-fried Lake Erie pickerel for $38/plate, we knew we would be disappointed. What we put on the table at home is pretty tough to beat. So, it was back to beer and finger-food... which got us through till morning.

On the brighter side, we had lunch the following day in Barrie at The Mexican House. There is a location right close to the 400. If you're heading north and like Mexican, it's definitely worth a stop. The Churro Donuts and other Mexican Desserts are to die for!

Oh, and while in Barrie, I took the opportunity to stop in at Cabela's and re-stocked the pike arsenal in advance of next week's derby

That is the issue isn't it? We are finding the price of not having to do dishes is getting more and more difficult to justify
That Mexican looks worthy of a detour 👍

We rarely dine out for that reason... If we do it's for something we can't make or have yet to learn to make... 😉

I end up eating out quite a bit when out of town with work and have to agree that one can fair much better with our favorite well prepared home cooked meals made to your own personal liking. The pricing based on supply chain issues has also skyrocketed since the pandemic making it an expensive night for most when dining out. Nice getting out but the mass produced tablefare and $$$$$ spent can get tiring very quickly I find.
