I got my kicker back in the winter and had Extreme marine install it and an ACR like the guys on this board recommended, and I???m very happy with it. Thanks guys!

I???ve now almost got it broken in to the 20hr period which then requires an oil change etc. I went looking at it so I can do my own like I do with my 150 merc.

Much to my surprise the oil filter is in a super tough to get to spot. It???s below the line of the casing. I???m wondering if I???ll need to take it half apart just to get to the filter? Anyone else on here with the 4 stroke efi 9.9 pro kicker that???s done the filter change?

If you did it, did you need to take it apart? I can???t find a single YouTube video on it. Lots on just oil.

Your 2nd picture eliminated one of my possible answers. Only other suggestion I can offer is trying a strap (nylon) style filter wrench with an end you attach an extension or ratchet to.

nice, they show it on the 15 hp vid. Id like to know how he got the wrench in there, as you can see in my pics it wont fit in mine. Maybe cuz his is a 15hp it had more room when he went to use the wrench to tighten it? its a claw one, and I got one of them too and it too wont fit. Thanks for posting the vid though.

Actually I???m wrong, the adjustable claw should fit. If it don???t then I???ll get the strap one, thanks for replying guys.

I had a tohatsu 9.9 and had the same issue. A claw type oil filter wrench was needed to spin the filter off. I placed blue shop towels below the filter to soak up the oil that spills before spinning the filter off. Once the filter comes off the threads... the filter can be pulled out with a few fingers.

I wonder is lifting off the rubber gasket for the lid would give you a little extra clearance.

The filter removal tool in that video is way thinner than the cup type you are using which allows easy access onto the filter. I have never seen one like that so may be a special one for that very purpose.

I have a 2020' 15Pro kicker and I simply pop the plastics off to gain better access and to prevent oil getting all down inside. 10mm socket on a drill driver pops the lower covers off in 30 seconds. Take upper seal off the rim, remove I believe 4-5 screws from the RH side and they fall away.

I have a 15 Suzuki 4 stroke and need to remove side panel, (casing) to access the 3 screws of the filter cover. Easy peasy.

My Suzuki 9.9 is the same and I think its a pain in the rear end. I'm usually doing oil changes end of season and the cold plastic is brittle and feels like it wants to snap rather than come apart.

There is an oil filter socket wrench that exact size, that pops onto a normal 3/8 socket. Fits over top, crank it out. Easy peasy.
