Dont know what type of shorebird this is but this one and another came around to visit---wasnt shy, came right up to my feet. Sorry pic is so dark:

It's a Ruddy Turnstone, Packrat -- they nest in the Arctic, so this one likely just arrived down here after a long flight. And, yes, there name is descriptive as they use their bill to flip / turn over small rocks to look for and eat little critters that are underneath.
 
Thanks for the reply---like I said couldnt believe how close they would come to me---even walked all over my backup rod and took a look at the plastic bag with my salties. Btw they looked like they were well fed---plump little suckers---and they were picking up little insects off the cement.
