FINALLY A NICE DAY! Water temps are still too cold for optimal fishing success but we managed 4 pike between 3 and 6 pounds in almost 4 hours on jigs. Water temperatures ranged from 45-46 degrees. This was our first trip of the season in Long Point Bay.

Nice job guys better than my 1 follow but it was a nice day on the water with the family.

Good work guys. We trolled from 1pm to 5pm and came home empty handed. We seemed to mark lots but nothing was interested in what we had to offer. Jimmy sounded like he had a few but not too many others were having much luck either. It was by far the best day of the year so far despite the uncooperative pike.

Thx for the report Duck. A sure sign of spring when you and Albert are into the pike again!

We were out @ the Bluffs for about 2hrs, 1 pike approx. 4lbs, tr. speed 2-2.4 marked lots...maybe Jimmys right, slow it down.(water is still too cold) Either way it was a great first day of soft water.

Yes, I read Jimmy's post and agree 100%. Look for the warmest water and slow down. Albert hooked four pike and his technique is to let the jig lay on the bottom and bounce it slowly. It sounds easier than it is because I cannot duplicate it and he catches 90% of the pike when water temps are below 50 degrees. The only one I caught was foul hooked. Albert lost one of four that bit through his 50 pound fluorocarbon leader.

Now ya tell us!!;) We were trolling 1.8 and faster in an effort to keep a couple of spoons working... We don't target pike very often and I guess it shows, I really wish we could have made it to Jimmy's seminar on Sunday but had some family stuff to deal with. Oh well, we'll keep working on it and get better I guess. Let's just keep praying to the fishing gods for some more weather like we had Saturday.

Yeah G.Mech, the trick is to find a pike lure with enough action at Lake Trout trolling speeds. Personally I've not had much luck trolling at Bluff Bar in the past 10 years. Trolling was extremely productive once upon a time but far fewer anglers fished for pike at the bar in those days. Today you would need a presentation that the fish like but have not been caught and released on before.

Yes, slow was the key. I agree that you need to find lures that run at slow speeds, however I don't agree that trolling for them is not as productive. All I do is troll and I do very well on pike. I have tried to jig and cast for them with nothing to show for it. I think it is the presentation that you have confidence in. I also agree that you have to use something that the fish are not use to. The baits that I used were the new honeycomb pattern williams and the new 1oz chatterbait. I still run some of my old standbys but I don't think that there are many people running them.
