Ojibwa on the way ?

Here is what I know ? they say it will take 40 hrs to float her from hammer town to pt.burwell but they need is weather ? I mean if we had weather we would be fishin not being computer geniuses Heddle Marine is who's bringing it through the welland hope that helps , as of this morning I heard that it was still tied up .

Wind forecast is bad until mid next week. They are currently looking at Nov. 14th to leave Hamilton. The wind is a key factor since this contraption is very, very top heavy and the barge is quite narrow. It is about 60 feet above water and only 10 feet below and could roll over fairly easily in heavy winds or waves.

Here's some recent news clips:

Maybe they missed the boat....they should have de-commisioned one of the "new" subs they bought at a stupid price from the brits and kept this one in active service...it seems in better nick then the one with the dent in it lol

I was down the Heddle Marine yard in Hamilton yesterday and they told me that they are going to put the finish coat of black paint on her starting today and the sub will leave as soon as the paint is dry and wind conditions permit. The guy I talked to figured it would be this weekend sometime. The Elgin Military Museum still has the landing crew on standby for arrival and landing sometime next week and are ready to go on 1-2 days notice.

They will be posting updates on Facebook:

You can follow the progress and position real-time on Marinetraffic.com. The ship you will want to follow (once it leaves) is Nadro Marine's 'Lac Manitoba' but it appears that the transponder on board is currently not turned on. If you look on there now, the sub is sitting at the foot of Hillyard St in Hamilton beside the tugboat 'Petite Forte'.

The facebook page is also being updated as often as they can:

There is also a Twitter feed but I'll leave that up to my teenage daughter to figure out for me:D.

There are lots of people heading to the Canal tomorrow to watch her go through the locks. I may head down for a look if the timing works out.

If Lac Manitoba is the push tug,for the Ojibwa,it is just entering the Welland Canal.

She's halfway up the canal. We were lucky to see her at Lock #1 around 11 am because the whole town of St Catherines is at the canal watching. It's quite a mob scene and traffic jambs. Very impressive watching her come up.

They don't anticipate stopping traffic on Arrival day (Tuesday) but will for Landing Day. As far as I know, there will be parking at th Provincial Park with shuttles into town but I do not have the details yet. If Burwell is anything like St Catherine's yesterday it's gonna be a zoo!

Here is a link to all the public access info for Arrival and Landing Days. I will post any updates that become available as things develop.

It's going be a very long day moving the sub up the shoreline and nothing will happen too quickly but it will still be neat to see.
