Minnow trapping and Trout peeping

Since we have to self isolate for 14 days and I have already exhausted all Internet porn that I have seen re-runs, I figured it was time to take advantage of the hundreds of acres I have permission to be on in my backyard.

Took mini me out to set our minnow traps when I spotted a trout, when he barked quite loudly IS THAT A TROUT DAD!?! ?‍♂️ Needless to say, all I got for a photo was a ripple. I then explained how vital it is to be silent, and that his grandfather and great grandfather have let me know what the back of their hand tastes like for even breathing too loud!

We did find a pair breeding the next day which I took some poorly taken cell phone quality video.

We caught 7 very large creek chubs which we let go for now, that will make amazing pike/bass bait later and kept two panfish sized ones to use once we can get out into the public and down to LPB (y)

That is awesome. I have been trapping some bait fish in my creek . Simply amazing the variety and the size for a tiny spring feed creek . They migrate between a few ponds I guess.

So this year far have caught in the trap

Red bellied dace
Brook stickle backs
Mud minnows
Creek chubs
Baby bowfin
Red horse sucker.

I may have been hooting and hollering at those two trout like a college kid at a strip bar.....

I got both my kids to come to the creek today and check our traps. We managed another 11 JUMBO creek chubs and one Johnny darter (thanks for the positive fish id from a 68 member), all the chubs were released since we plan on targeting panfish/perch once we are quarantine free in one week. I should have taken video of Mini me showing his sister how to hold a fish with a glove, because she didn't want to touch it. He dunked the glove into the water fetched a chub out to show and release, then handed her the soaking wet glove :ROFLMAO:

We made our daily trap check today, found 5 more jumbo chubs which were released and kept a few smaller ones for our upcoming panfishing trip (y)

The creek was slightly higher & faster with the rain we had last night/morning. We let seven big girls go again today and kept 3 smaller ones.

It's about all we have for "fishing" until our 14 day quarantine is up.... Probably pull the Lund out of my garage next week to clean her up inside and out.

Got to be careful on those conference calls. I forgot about an important conference call my wife was on earlier this week while she is working from home. I walked into the house and let out a gigantic fart in the hallway, which made it travel throughout the entire house. I may have also commented on it as well. Needless to say she was not impressed but I believe at least one of her co workers did!

@Extra Virgin that's funniest thing I heard for a while ??????

With another day of rain our creek was muddy, high and fast. Went down to pull our traps out and found a bigass crawfish in the Amazon fail trap we bought online with the oversized crawfish sized hole ?‍♂️ we will give it a day or two to settle down before getting back out. We were lucky to have something daily to do besides cross off a day on the calendar. Maybe we will harvest a few dozen worms since the ground is ripe for the picking (y)

LOL I’m going to have to use that one with my wife’s conference calls!

It was quite the assortment today with four other species, technically the crawfish would be five in our traps today.

Thanks again for sharing your photo’s @Extra Virgin ? I recognized the fish as a Stickleback in your 4th photo, for I remember catching them years ago in a small creek near where I lived back then. Now,if you don’t mind, please send me a personal message & map of the 2 trout that you showed everyone a few days ago, that were spawning in your creek. lol :ROFLMAO:;) Trout season is coming up,on April 25/20.;)???

Another day of catching a few jumbo minnows that we let go. I am hopeful we will be able to use our smaller ones in a month or so to go panfishing (y)
Mini me is a natural doing all the work and holding them so I can identify (with some help by a fellow 68 member) the different species we have caught.
