Long Point Bay - Smallmouth Bass - June 30th

Fish em All

Well-Known Member
We finally made it down to the Inner Bay for some smallies and the fishing around EC 2, 3, and 4 was fairly consistent all morning. We started out fishing around Bait Island and worked our way out towards EC 2. Water temperatures dropped 10 degrees from 68F - 58F moving from Bait Island to EC 4. We fished tubes, drop shot rigs, wacky rigs and spinner baits. Caught 19 smallmouth and lost about 10 fish near the boat and finally decided to head in once the wind and waves picked up.

Great pictures as usual guys. Really surprised the bass responed in that cold water, especially to spinner baits. Drop shot rigs seem to be a solution to lots of difficult situations.

We caught a couple of smaller bass on spinnerbaits in the warmer water near Bait Island. The go to tactic for the cold water fish was dragging a tube 0.5-0.8 mph using the wind or trolling motor. We used light braided line with fluorocarbon leaders and 1/8 oz jigheads with long leads behind the boat. Hottest colour of the day was watermelon purple flake, it caught the majority and biggest of the cold water bass. The fish were actually cold to the touch when pulled from the 9-12 ft depths and 57 F temps.
