The ice condition was good today @Mitso where I was fishing on that part of Fanshawe Lake,(a couple of photo’s from Fanshawe Lake,& the last photo below Fanshawe Dam). The ice thickness on Fanshawe Lake is around 6 inches thick. Tight lines & be safe & Fish ON!! this weekend for you on Fanshawe Lake,if you do go out @Mitso ice fishing there this weekend. πŸŽ£πŸŸπŸŸπŸŸπŸŸπŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

You must be holding back on the fish porn pics to conserve the fishery @Red Hering lol

Fanshawe really needs a minimum size. The number of cigar sized Walleye I see harvested there is disturbing. For the fishery to be in any way successful those small fish all need a chance to contribute to the gene pool. Most fish I see harvested are small immature fish that have never had the chance to spawn πŸ˜’ Killing those fish is the quickest way to kill that fishery.

Agree 100%. Should be at the very least a slot size but with all the walleye opportunities in this part of Ontario, Id love to see a catch and release only for the lake. I watched the collapse of a massive walleye fishery on Lk Nippissing because of overharvest of immature fish.

Ohio Lake erie waters has a 15 inch minimum size on walleye..

just last season we caught a couple of the refering to cigar size walleye off erieau fishing for big walleye like we have caught in the past, those tiny little walleye were so delicate and fragile and did swim away...in reality our MNR is a one size fits all for how many years now..its our fishery management or lack of...they pissed me off years ago with all the lost sport fishing oppurtunity..as individual anglers we have to make are own conservation efforts like @Red Hering has here in this thread..

ya Fanshawe first hand overfishing the walleye numbers..exactly the problem I hear from a new fisherman meant him at canadian tire buying turkey ammo oxford..ya he invited me to go with him and fish it..new friend tells me hes been basically cleaning the walleye out of it going and going..ya on one hump trolling cranks.. these are keeper walleye..hey most of us know to well on how the numbers go down with pressure like that ..ya another spring example..deer creek brown trout what happen there..another fished hard reservoir..hey its a small world..right down to how well a vanderbilt spinner works..ya we were sick of that too..and know the 2 clowns well from aylmer..at one time upto 5 lb specs got respect & released..what turns a fishermen to become that..seriously..it does not make sense cleaning out the resource...theres very few i give a pass and they dont realize the impact of fishing pressure on sensitive fish resources.

I have never fished fanshawe period..I have fished the plentiful black crappie years back on deer creek and kept a good feed..

Fanshawe lane is a cesspool of agricultural run off. May as well be eating a shit sandwich keeping anything from there anyways. All of the conservation areas should be catch and release imho anyways, like it’s in the name of the area πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
Definitely @Dmanwithnoname πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š Preservation & Protection is in the name of Conservation, and it would be fantastic, that all of conservation areas would be a catch and release fishery. πŸ‘πŸ‘You,myself & many others would likely agree πŸ’― % if this was being practised!! πŸŽ£πŸŸπŸŸπŸŸπŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ™‚

Take it easy on Fanshawe for catching a fish fry. I am disabled and more and more Fanshawe is the only place that I can go to with my shortcomings. There is a well known boat (black pontoon?), that will fish for their limit but do it everyday. I suggest that if anyone is able to identify these culprits that the MNR get a report so that their fridge can be checked. The 4-6 limit INCLUDES all fish of a daily limit AND whatever else is in the freezer. I've seen lots of posts of people repeatedly catching their "limit" and then process the fish to freezer and do it again the very next day. If you have 6 walleye in the fridge, you should not be fishing until you eat them. Saving up 50 walleye for a fish fry is not the right thing to do. The MNR eating suggestions would have you eating no more than 4-6 per Month to be healthy so maybe the problem will die out.........

how do you like yours eggs? POACHED !
