I am not going out of my way shoot them but if one flies by within range ? My neighbours cats like to eat too. Maybe by dissecting some it would shed light as to if they eat Goby's or Alewives ?

Only if your shooting off a floating mattress. You may even see @Extra Virgin out there taking a few cracks at them.
