One of my favourite times of the year just kicked off this week with a bang! Had a great week! many encounters, some out of range some too early but they were all great!
pretty certain the trail cam photo of the big guy was the one I saw 10 min before shooting light Thursday morning walked pass me about 30yards out of the field and into the gully nearly gave me a heart attack!

the time in the photo is an hour ahead so it was actually only 705pm
What’s even more crazy we were just 50 yards from that camera dragging a deer out about 30-40min before that!
these guys are sneaky

our group finished the week with 6 deer down, two tags remaining will hopefully be filled with bow before the end of the season. Lots of meat to fill the freezer and give to family. and the year supply of pepperettes and summer sausage

hey nice shooting Derkd and group..
I just wondered how the butchering went with the warm weather..
Only heard of a few tags filled early monday
ya waiting to here the results from a couple small groups..

Yah they were put in cooler the day each was harvested and is all wrapped and in everyone’s freezer at this point.
Wasn’t able to harvest any after Wednesday. Just a few encounters but no shots fired.

I usually eat the heart first..but the liver stays n the gut pile..
Ya i should cook up some bambi burgers sometime soon..
speaking of venison summer sausage ..Mt brydges abbattoir makes those too perfection..there salamis are the best...there Xbig and flavourful..nice Xmas gifts as well..

Made venison shepherds pie last night. We had some fried up tenderloins from our archery Deer few weeks ago
Love it so tasty!
last year we took ours to Atwood Heritage, the honey garlic pepperettes were great but my favourite is the Spicy extra hot ones with cheese and crackers such a good snack.
All our regular recipes that use ground beef work with venison
Meat loaf, tacos, spaghetti sauce, lol heck hamburger helper all good stuff
I made a mushroom soup slow cooker roast that was just amazing. I’ll have to dig that recipe up delicious.

hey derkd you opened up an old wound..ya when i sacrificed having a Gf here..I was occasionally rewarded .. ya the baked tacos & baked lasagna with ground venison was exceptional..

Farmer saw the big guy when he was dropping grain bins off today.
bumped him out of the laneway at 830am
Said one of the biggest deer he has ever seen!
