Claira the Crappie Crusher Bonin!

Hey guys,

A quick photo report. This summer has been crazy busy but I promised each one of my kids a solo trip in the boat. Last night a window opened up and I was able to take my youngest out for her turn with Dad. On our way out to the lake we picked up some minnows from my wife's cousins who own Erie Bait & Tackle and am I ever glad we did. I don't often use live bait but they were ALL OVER Claira's minnows last night. I managed 1 fish for 2 casts and Claira fought it for me. lol I was to busy putting minnows on her hook every two seconds. I'm pretty sure she lost 3 minnows for every landed fish.. Hard to get a good hookset in with her ice fishing rod. haha It's all good though be cause she had a blast. I think it's time to graduate to a bigger rod.

First cast, she hammers her personal best Rock Bass ( big deal when you're 4 )

After that she crushed the crappie one after another and wouldn't you know it she catches her personal best crappie several times over! That's how she got her new nickname "Claira the Crappie Crusher" or "Tripple C". lol

The smile on that sweetie's face says it all! You really do have some "bragging rights"! That made my morning and thanks for sharing the great pics, wonderful.:)

Great pics and lots of personal bests for your little fishergirl. That's one happy kid.

Wow, those pics are just priceless! I love the side shots of her and the pick rod bent over, some solid fish there. Well done and thanks for sharing. I always enjoy fishing with my key da even though they are adult or almost bit can remembers days like this......... You right, those memories will last forever!

That's an awesome report and I love the smiles made my day better She'll always remember her day of fishing with dad I'll bet

Super report! Nice pics.
Takes me back to when my kids 'used to' fish with me. Now they are in their 20s and they have other pursuits.

Reminds me of a few precious days trolling for bows in the same area with my baby girl Ryan. Thank you.

"I got a bite daddy"!
"No honey that's just the thump of the spinner".
"Daddy, help!!"
"Son of a b%^h you do!"

4 fish before I even got my rod put together. Next thing we know there are 2 middle aged guys in an aluminum trying to match our speed and trolling pattern off to our right.
"What are you using?" one asks.
"Can I tell them?" she whispered to me sheepishly.
"Go ahead honey."
"What are we using?" she whispers again.
"#3 Mepps" I answered.
"#3 Mepps" she yelled even though they where so close she didn't have to.

Both men dove head first into their tackle boxes but neither has exactly what they are looking for.

Wasn't long before the bite died and the sun got hot so it was time to go.

On the way home we stopped in to see Ron and Gaye at Country Sports and pick up a few more spinners for next time. As I'm grabbing every last one of our favourites from the wall Autumn elbows me in the thigh and looks toward the door. In come our new friends from the campground in search of the magic lures. Their eyes brightened when they spied the little girl who had cleaned up on the stockers, then narrowed when they saw the mitt full of lures I had in my hands.

Autumn beamed as these 2 filled Gaye in on what they had seen her do that morning. Still chokes me up to think of it 15 years later as it did then.

She's in her early 20's now and arthritis makes holding a thumping spinning rod too painful for her so we don't fish together anymore, but those few days we did get to share are truly priceless in my heart.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with us Ryan. Just remember that this life is short and your girls will be women before you know it.

Thanks Ryan for that! (y) Awesome post and very nice pics as well! That is a perfect example of what our great sport is all about! :D Nothing can put a bigger smile on a seasoned anglers face then passing on the joys and traditions to a youngster and reliving our own forgotten excitement through their firsts and always improving personal bests ;) Many of us, myself included are guilty of taking things too seriously some times. Thanks for the reminder of what time with a fishin' pole in hand should be about....some of us need a little reminder of the simpler joys once in awhile:facepalm:

Those Bass are bigger than she is. If I were you I would be stocking up on 12 gauge to keep the suitors at bay my friend.

@Stick , I love your post too. Priceless moments you just can never get back.

Amazing! Great report and fantastic pictures......it's absolutely the BEST times taking young ones out like that and creating those memories of a life time. Forget lotto 649.....looks like you've won the lottery already. Thanks for sharing and enjoy these glory days as they fly by in the blink of an eye.

Oh...and "triple c" lol...classic. :)

Hey gang! I just wanted to take a second to thank you all SO VERY MUCH for the kind words. I wanted to reply to everyone individually but I'm overwhelmed around with things around the office and home. But I didn't want to just let this thread die without at least thanking everyone. Hope you all have an awesome long weekend!

Cheers,
Ryan

That is an awesome post, but a smile on my face. Have to show it to my 28 year old niece, she still fish with me sometimes, but she has to put gloves on to touch fish. lol

Just curious, where is Erie bait? Your post has inspired me to take my stepson down that way for a camping night next week and I'd like to grab some minners for for him to play with the panfish :)

Thanks!

Josh
